Psychological Services
— Psychotherapy. Each person, family, or couple seeking support brings an individual context that informs the pace, approach, and goals of treatment. As a specialist in child and adolescent psychology, Dr. Kaplinski provides psychotherapy to children, teenagers, young adults, families, and parents who come for a variety of reasons (e.g., depression, anxiety, OCD, eating disorders, divorce, coping with illness/disease, loss, trauma, relationship conflict, attention and behavior problems, difficulties at school or work). Dr. Kaplinski also has expertise in couple therapy—providing structure, tools, and support for couples to decrease conflict and improve their relationship, communication, and commitment. As Dr. Kaplinski draws from evidence-based therapeutic techniques in guiding psychotherapy, she values the closeness and healing that that develops within the therapeutic relationship.
— Psychological Testing. Individuals seek testing to obtain a diagnosis of learning disorder, ADHD, or autism spectrum disorder, to re-evaluate a previously identified disorder, or to get recommendations for appropriate interventions and accommodations. Dr. Kaplinski conducts psychological testing with young adults and children beginning at age six. A specific testing plan is developed for each person based on their history and current concerns. Psychological testing often includes standardized assessment of cognitive abilities, academic achievement, executive functioning, specific components of reading, along with standardized questionnaires targeting psychological, social/emotional, and behavioral symptoms.
— Teaching and Supervision. Dr. Kaplinski offers educational seminars and writes articles for the community on a variety of topics in psychology, leads couples workshops teaching an empirically-supported approach for relationship improvement, and directs a peer-to-peer supportive caregiving program. Dr. Kaplinski also provides clinical supervision for candidates seeking licensure in mental health professions.
